We are a team of dedicated and pioneering environmental professionals, geodata product analysts and product developers.
We have all played pivotal executive and operational roles in developing the UK’s environmental search market (contaminated land, flood and climate searches) over the last 25 years.
Stephen Sykes
Stephen is an environmental solicitor and entrepreneur specialising in environmental enterprises.
As a solicitor, Stephen has worked for three of the UK’s top 30 commercial law firms: Addleshaw Goddard; Squire Paton Boggs and HSF. The Legal 500 directory has described him as the UK’s “most commercial environmental lawyer”. He is Head of Climate, Environment and Sustainability at Capital Law, specialising in de-risking development sites, environmental dispute resolution and climate law. He is an Honorary Member and former Chair of the UK’s Environmental Law Association (UKELA) and a member of UKELA’s Energy and Climate Change Working Party.
As an entrepreneur, Stephen cofounded the City of London’s Environmental Insurance Market in the 1990s, designing an innovative range of policies to support commercial transactions. He then cofounded and chaired environmental search provider, Argyll Environmental, in the 2000s. More recently he has assisted environmental data companies with the development of climate searches and the commercial application of drone and satellite data to assess environmental risks.

Having previously worked as a database and GIS engineer, he is one of the few people able to blend consulting with automation. Outside of work, Chris is an avid mountain biker and open water swimmer, enjoying the challenges and exhilaration that come with exploring nature from these unique perspectives.
